Critical Reflection Questions for Music Video

Image
How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues? My music video is of an RnB song, you can you usually see people dancing in these or they most definitely have a storyline where something good then bad happens. In my music video I utilized this accordingly by having my storyline be about a lost dog who is found and returned safely to the owner. In RnB music videos people are also lip syncing the song,  this is one of a few conventions I didn't use. In this video the actors do not interact with the song at all besides the fact that it ends in the owner being happy. Another convention is that men in these type of videos are seen shirtless, I did not use this seeing that it is inappropriate and would have no use within my project and what I was aiming for. The product depicts a little boy who is playing with his puppy, he gets distracted and the puppy runs away. He is saddened and then looks around with a kind person who decided t

My Filming and Editing Process

There were many obstacles when trying to film and edit. Some of these obstacles include the weather, when I tried to record it began raining which stopped me. Another obstacle was when I began editing I realized I didn't have all of my props and I had to run and get the things I was missing. I also had problems with my scheduling, where some of my actors weren't available. A problem with editing that I had was the Wi-Fi, I had to reboot the box in order for it to work. Another editing issues was when the video wouldn't go to the right time and I kept editing it. These issues were finally resolved because i learned to think about them differently. I resolved these issues by thinking like an actual director would by not panicking and just resolving the issues calmly. This method took a lot of stress away then what I'd usually do in the making of a music video. It also help me get things done in an orderly and timely fashion. Throughout the editing and filming process it

After I came back upstairs from filming my music video I began editing. I first had to get my computer started and then when I tried to go onto google it  said it wasn't connected. So I had to reboot my WIFI box to try to get it to work. Once the WIFI restarted I logged into the WIFI and it worked. It was going pretty slow but it still worked. I then got my phone and went on the app to start editing my video. As I went through the clips it was hard to get to the right time. At first it'd be too long like a minute and two seconds so I'd cut something. Once I cut a clip it'd be too short so I was struggling with the times. I decided to take a break and work on other work. Once I got finished I continued to edit my music video. I kept battling with the times, sometimes over 60 seconds other times, it was below. I realized that I'd have to leave it below and then add something outside of what I recorded. So I added two black screens that said things about the video on

Happy Music Video

This is my final product after the weeks of editing, recording and blogging. This was relatively easier then the last project which was a commercial project. I  believe it was easier because I've had experience with the different software and assets to make a video. When I began to do my research I knew the key words to type in to access the exact information I needed. This was a big problem I had last time because I didn't know what to type in I was going in a virtual circle. I also advanced in how I directed the film because last time I wasn't as organized and everyone was all over the place. This time I was able to give direct instructions that everyone could understand including my five year old cousin. I knew I had to give the the story line first so they could have an idea of what they were expected to do. So I gave them the storyline and then instructed them of what they were expected of. As we progressed through the scenes I instructed them during each scene to make

Before I started recording I had to gather all of my materials together. I got my camera, my storyboard and a few other materials that were necessary to the success of this music video. I then called my actors to meet up but their were a few issues. First my cousin couldn't make it because he was feeling under the weather. Then, my other cousin was at his father's house so he wasn't available either. The next day I tried to go out and record because everything seemed perfect. The weather thought otherwise, it was becoming darker outside and the wind started blowing, it began to rain and I wanted to record outside so I had to wait another day. Finally, on the day that I was able to record I headed over to my aunt's house to get the dog and my two cousin's. We headed down to the field to begin to record when the baby and dog wouldn't stay still. I had to call my aunt down to help us with holding the dog and the baby. Then when I started recording the first few s

Planning Storyboard for my Music Video

In the first scene I will show a boy walking his dog using a pan shot. It'll be a nice sunny day and they will be happy then I'll show him and his dog playing on the ground together. The mood at this point is set as happy and uplifting because it's a kid and his puppy. The third scene will show the kid getting distracted by something in his phone, not paying attention to his puppy. He'll remove his hand from the dog's leash because he got caught up into his phone and the dog will run away. He then realizes his dog is missing once he gets off his phone and becomes distraught. He searches behind a tree and a bush in this next scene but has no luck. A woman and her baby are taking a relaxing stroll outside, they are smiling and having fun. The boy bumps into them and he questions them to see if they've seen his puppy, showing them a picture. In the next scene, the woman's baby agrees to help him out with his searches to find his missing puppy. The mom and the
