Welcome Back Blog

 

My name is Janaiya Polk. I am currently in my 3rd year of high school at fort Lauderdale high. I am excited to be back into in person learning, in oppose to online learning like last year. Aice Media studies AS level was very fun for me last year despite the circumstances. I feel as though I didn't get the full experience of the class last year due to school being online because of Covid. Everything still feels a little weird because we were out of school for over a year. I am adjusting back to in person learning slowly. The masks can be a little distracting and bothersome. Sometimes I have to step out of class because of this which can make me get unfocused. I can't wait to see how this class will turn out through the course of this year. I feel that it will be more engaging because it is in person. Having the first level of this class last year through a screen was fun but also rough because I am a hands on learner. I cant wait to see what this class and year holds for me. This class should also be easier for me this year because the information isn't new and I learned all the basics last year. Online school was also hard because I have a short attention span. During online school last year I had trouble focusing on the tasks at hand. I missed a few assignments last year due to this problem which is why I'm excited for in person learning. This year I will make sure that I'm doing all my work and that I'm focusing. In person learning will help me to do so because I will be in school for the class this year instead of in my room. This class for this year will be fun and exciting but also challenging for me.

Planning for Short Film

  We plan to film our short film at different locations around the school. The first place we plan to film is on the track. This is where the establishing shot will be and the entire first scene will happen. The next scene will take place in the bully's room, this where the transition to the bully's dream takes place. The bully's dream will occur in the outside hallway of building 5. The final scene will happen in the bus loop. We will begin filming after winter break, January 3, 2022. The day back is an A day so we will try to film during al of our study halls. When filming isn't in process everyone will have on their masks for safety. Genre Research - Final Choice

    Out of all three of the genres chosen, we decided to finally go with Drama. The reason for this choice is that a drama is simply more flexible than the others. There are so many aspects to a film that can make it be considered as a drama. On the other hand, Horror and Comedy have a big more restraint. When making a horror film, there has to be some element that “scares” the audience. Whether it is actually scary or not isn’t the point, but whether it creates a chilling atmosphere. It just didn’t really seem to fit into the prompt of our short film. We don’t want the audience to be too distracted by “not getting scared” to the point where they miss the message we are trying to send. Comedy was a little more close than horror, but again, it didn’t seem to match our story. The main purpose of comedic films is to have the audience laughing.   We chose three different genres that we believed our pitch could fit into. The first genre we chose is comedy. Our pitch could fit into the comedy genre because of some events that could occur. For example, while the bully is learning from his mistake someone could make a joke. It could also fit in this genre because of its elements and Mis-En-Scene. Such as, the casual costumes and classroom settings of many comedy films. The second genre we chose for our pitch is horror. This pitch could fit into this genre because of the acts of violence within the scenes. Another reason it could fit is because of some common sounds found in horror. For example, screaming; this could be used in our pitch during a scene where the bully is bullying someone. The last genre we chose for our pitch is drama.
